Our clients selected us to design their alterations on the basis of work we had done for their aunts’ semi. They were very involved and engaged in the whole process, with the wife working in the fashion industry, and the husband having a strong interest in architecture and design. We did the classic transformation of relocating the main entry further down the middle of the house at the side, freeing up the old side entry to become an en suite to the front main bedroom. The original dining room became a third bedroom and laundry.

The site was blessed with a slope towards the rear garden, allowing for the new entry and kitchen/dining area to be on the existing floor level, with new steps down to the new living area which feels a lot larger because of its extra height. A new fireplace provides a vertical feature to emphasis the living room height, with glass doors to the established rear garden.

Unlike many projects, where the new owners have to wait to furnish their new home in a manner befitting the new spaces, our clients had already collected and curated some fine furniture and artworks. All had their place in the design, with the resulting new home having a sense of completion and cosiness almost as soon as they moved in.
